Writing buddies Helena Pastor and Edwina Shaw have been holding their own private writing retreats at Evans Head since 2005 to relax and write and share their stories.
This year they opened up their retreat to other women to do the same.
This first retreat in September 2017 was so enthusiastically embraced and enjoyed by all involved that Helena and Edwina have decided to make it a regular thing with the next retreat planned for March 2018 and more to follow. For participants’ reviews click HERE
On retreat you can relax, write and enjoy yourself in a beautiful setting with experienced workshop facilitators and published authors Helena Pastor and Edwina Shaw. Unwind with yoga and free your creative voice with lots of fun writing activities and workshops.
The next retreat is again at Camp Koninonia in Evans Head, northern NSW, Australia. Because we love it there. Evans Head is surrounded by national park for miles around so has a special depth of quiet we love. All yoga and writing activities are conducted only a minutes’ walk from a glorious beach surrounded by national park where you can swim, walk, laze in the sun or meditate to your heart’s content.
Edwina Shaw teaches creative writing at the University of Queensland (UQ), yoga to performance dance students at the Qld University of Technology and innovative workshops combining both. Her novel Thrill Seekers was shortlisted for the 2012 NSW Premier’s Award for New Writing. In 2016 she released In the Dark of Night – a chapter book for young readers. She has been teaching yoga and publishing her writing since 2002 and was awarded a Masters degree in Creative Writing from UQ in 2005. http://www.edwinashaw.com
Helena Pastor lives in Armidale and is the author of Wild Boys: A Parent’s Story of Tough Love (UQP, 2015). Her writing has attracted two ASA Mentorships and a number of residencies at Varuna and Bundanon. She has been teaching memoir and editing workshops to both beginners and more experienced writers since 2010. Helena is also a songwriter and lyricist. 3 – 5:30 Writing the Body with Edwina. What stories does your body have to tell?

7 – 8:15 a.m. Yoga with Edwina
9:30 – 12:30 Writing fiction using yoga techniques to quiet the inner critic with Edwina

All retreats are tailored to suit participants needs.
Writers in other locations can contact us about the possibility of holding a retreat, or conducting workshops, in a centre in your locality. We are also available for day workshops.
Our aim is to nurture our participants and create a safe and welcoming environment for women to explore their creativity, relax and write!
